This cozy mystery is the 15th in a series. Amateur sleuth Jane Jeffry's friend Shelley Nowack and Shelley's husband have just purchased a small theater, and Jane is helping Shelley find a suitable caterer for the theater's volunteers. Unfortunately, the uneven temperaments and talents of the actors and the poorly written play by the theatrical company's director make for a somewhat indigestible mess. The situation becomes even more unpalatable when one of the actors is murdered. Assigned to the case is Jane's police detective boyfriend, Mel VanDyne, who relies upon Jane's knowledge of the company to help him solve the mystery.
