This historical fantasy is a sequel to WOLFSKIN, and concerns the children of the characters in the previous books. Thorvald, a young man brought up in the Orkneys, embarks on a sea voyage in search of his father Somerlad, exiled for murder before Thorvald was born. He is accompanied by his friend Sam and Creidhe, daughter of the Viking warrior Eyvind and the Pictish Princess Nessa. The three are wrecked in the Lost Isles and encounter the Long Knife people, a tribe with a disquieting secret.
