Once, humans and youkai (demons) lived in harmony in Shangri-La. But now, that harmony is being disrupted by the Minus Wave, an evil emanation caused by a forbidden incantation melding magic and science. Kanzeon Bosatsu, the goddess of mercy, has appointed three human-shaped youkai and a warrior-priest to combat the evil, whose source is in India. As the four heroes drive toward the West in their jeep, they are menaced by assassins--as well as their own bickering. This is a manga updating of the ancient Chinese legend JOURNEY TO THE WEST. It is presented in its original Japanese right-to-left format. As an added bonus, all of the sound effects are preserved in Japanese katakana, and translated in the back of the book.

Although it soon turned into a laugh-fest, this first series of adventures takes a serious approach to the characters, mirroring later interpretations such as LOIS & CLARK from the 1990s. The show was hugely popular in its day, and this collection of episodes from the first season of THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN affords viewers the chance to wallow in some awesome retro TV action.
