Practical Criticism
This influential work of criticism, published in 1929, regards the lecture-room experiments performed by eminent critic, I. A. Richards. Here, Richards discusses what he learned when he systematically presented poetry to his students with the authorship concealed. Dismissing the preconceptions students associate with the poetic practices ascribed to certain authors, Richards sought to discover a different level of meaning apparent in the poems.
