Two platonic friends, Cathy Scarlet and Tom Feather, open a swanky catering business in contemporary Dublin. Cathy has problems with the class differences between her husband, altruistic lawyer Neil, and her own blue-collar parents. Tom is frustrated because his lovely girlfriend is more interested in her modelling career than in committing to him. When Tom's twin 9-year-old cousins find themselves homeless, Cathy's parents wind up taking them in, further complicating the friends' lives.

The Lost World The Lost World » The Lost World

In the late 1800s, a newspaper reporter attempts to impress his lady friend by joining an expedition led by Professor Challenger, which takes him along the Amazon in a search for a hidden valley populated by still-living dinosaurs. Unrelated to the Michael Crichton novel and film of the same name (which, incidentally, are named in homage to this book), this classic--but strikingly politically incorrect by today's standards--science fiction novel was filmed in the 1920s, and has been remade at least four more times (with little success).

War For The Oaks War For The Oaks » War For The Oaks

This early example of urban fantasy is considered one of the quintessential works in the genre. Eddi McCandry, a talented guitarist in a really bad bar band, is drafted into a war between the two faerie courts over control of the city of Minneapolis. Attended constantly by the phouka, a shape-changing faerie assigned as her bodyguard, Eddi must somehow launch a new band while dodging unearthly assassins and the unwelcome (and possibly deadly) attentions of her ex-boyfriend. The author, who would later join two folk rock bands, Cats Laughing and Flash Girls, interweaves the story's magical happenings with drawn- from-life depictions of Minneapolis's vibrant music scene.

I, Monster (DVD) » I, Monster (DVD)

A remarkably faithful adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE, director Stephen Weeks' first feature film--made when he was only 22--is also a surprisingly good one. Christopher Lee stars as Charles Marlowe, an early 20th Century psychologist who has discovered a drug that appears to diminish inhibitions. When early tests prove fatal to his vermin subjects, Marlowe takes the next logical course of action and ingests the medication himself. Meanwhile, the doctor's lawyer Frederick Utterson (Peter Cushing, STAR WARS) has learned of Marlowe's friend Blake, who is prone to fits of violence. After trampling a young girl in the street, Blake rushed to pay off the girl's father--with a check written in Marlowe's name. As Marlowe's experiments spin out of control, Utterson comes closer and closer to discovering the horrible truth. Though made on an obviously tight budget, the film is supported by Lee's complex performance, unexpectedly good sets, and the introduction of overtly Freudian themes to the classic story. It also boasts an entertaining amount of cheese, due in part to the fact that the project was originally intended to be presented in 3-D.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33
